CUSTOMS SERVICE EXPRESSES THE REGRET IN REGARD TO
Pristine, 28 July 2008. Customs service with great concern has observed the published articles in regard to publishing of the Report of OAG. We have obligation to inform correctly the opinion in large concerning these articles.
With regret we came to conclusion that the Repot of OAG initially is been misinterpreted from some written media and further on misunderstood also from the public in large. We must bring to attention that based on this report of OAG it results that Customs Service continuously made efforts and undertook proper action for enhancement and improvement of the standards and recommendations from all relevant institutions (please see Report of OAG 2007, Item III. Status of Prior Years Audit Recommendations).
Moreover in the report you can find Item V. Audit Opinion, which is very important item and surprisingly all journalists have evaded this item, whereby is been emphasized the Opinion of Auditor General in which case is been said:
“Except for the findings mentioned in section seven of this report whose effect is not material and pervasive, the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the UCS and the results of its operations for the respective year in accordance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards for “Financial Reporting under the Cash Basis of Accounting”. (citation from page 7, Item V. Auditor Opinion).
For the sake of truth in front of Kosovarian public opinion, we have obligation to invite all interested people to read full report directly from website of Office of Auditor General.
Moreover, we feel that this misinterpretation and misperception of the public affects negatively the moral and motivation of all Customs Officers precisely now when with at most engagement, but with insufficient support from KFOR and KPS, they are in combat of smuggling and crimes in the region of Mitrovica whereby protecting in this way Kosovo society, therefore in this time Customs Service needs a moral support and appreciation form all parties.
